Why You Should Not Go To College – Live Your Life in Your Own Terms
Ask yourself this question: Why would I want to go to college and get a university degree?
Is it because you really want to and your goal is to be a Lawyer, Psycologist, Scientific, Doctor or any other professional activity which requires a certification and a specific education?
The reason is your dad went to college and wants you to follow his steps?
Or maybe it is because, well, it’s always been like that… you finish high school, you go to college, you get your degree, look for a 9-to-5 job, have 2.4 children and a mortgage, 2-week vacation and that’s pretty much it?
If you’re old-fashioned and you actually like that… Nothing else to be said, be my guest, enjoy the ride!
But, if you’re doing it just because it’s how everybody rolls and society is pushing you to go that way, just don’t. Please, don’t.
Let me show you Why You Should Not Go To College if you really don’t feel like it, and how you can actually Live Your Life In Your Own Terms and forget about how others do it.
How Times Have Changed
The Internet has changed society a big deal.
If you’re a teenager, for you, it’s something it’s always been there since you were a little kid, but it’s not always been like that.
Fifteen years ago, before YouTube, Facebook and all the social media and online marketing boom, life was pretty different in regards to getting a job or becoming an entrepreneur.
There wasn’t so many information available online, since smartphones didn’t exist and the phones were used to call people (no WhatsApp or social media… Weird, right?). We would still have to rely on TV, newspapers and looking for a job was a difficult thing. Email existed, but not every company had a website so either you cold-called them or you had to actually go outside and bring your CV to whatever company you wanted to work for.
The analogic world was still a very important part of our daily lives.
The most followed pattern when it came to make a living was high school – college – university degree (Master’s degree or PhD in some cases could also be a requirement) and then try to get that desired job position, which wasn’t always a successful venture.
In that process, many people would end up in jobs that they didn’t like and stay there forever just because those jobs paid the bills, even though that made them miserable on a daily basis.
OK, after having depressed you a little with those old-times (not so old actually) scary stories, let me shine some light here: You don’t have to follow that classic path anymore.
College doesn’t necessarily have to be your only option. It was the only way years ago to get a qualified job and to be able to make a comfortable living in economical terms, but today there are other ways.
Let me say that sentence many people fear and keep avoiding, just because it’s how always has been like: You don’t have to go to college if you don’t want to.
What is Your Life Purpose?
Tough question? Not really, you’ll see.
I’m going to make this very easy for you. It’s not that I’m uncovering a secret here or something that only a few people know.
It’s out there, like I said earlier, times are changing and we need to evolve and adapt to the new society terms.
The main problem here is that we’ve all been forced to navigate through the system with all the rules and limitations and the only thing we’ve been able to do is just follow the path we’re supposed to without asking why.
Just forget about what’s “right” according to society and take a moment to answer these simple questions:
– What do I love to do and you’re good at? That specific thing that drives you, that excites you, that challenges you, that makes you jump out of bed and say: let’s do this! with a smile on your face.
– What would I be happy doing for the rest of my life? Let me put it this way: think about that something that, if you weren’t allowed to do again anymore, would make you miserable.
– If I had all the money I needed in the bank, what would I do? If you don’t even need to work anymore because you find out you’re the heir to some rich distant uncle, what is it that you would keep doing?
Did you get the same answer on all three questions?
If you did, you pretty much figured out your life purpose, right here, right now.
How does it feel? 😉
For example, let’s say you love photography, and that’s something you do all the time and you would be very unhappy if somebody was to forbid you from taking a single picture again and even with all the money in the world at your free disposal you would still be shooting all day.
Maybe it’s playing guitar what makes you feel alive or you’re always looking for the chance to cook fancy dishes for your friends and family…
Are you good at learning languages and you enjoy teaching expressions and new words to other people?
It’s also possible that you really would love to work in a field where you need a certain legal certification to be able to do you job. Like becoming a lawyer, a doctor, a nurse, a psychiatrist, a judge, a scientist, an engineer, an architect…. Well, that’s going to require a University education and a specific degree for sure.
I’m not saying here that going to College is bad or won’t do you any service. If it’s necessary to learn a specific skill or get a certain certification so that you can do what you love, then go for it. College here, is just a means to get what you need to do what you really love.
But if your life purpose is another one, you’re going to be wasting years of learning stuff that you won’t be using afterwards and trust me, that’s frustrating and you’ll end up beating up for those wasted years when you could really have been doing something meaningful and in line with your life goals and dreams.
There are certain areas of expertise that you can better learn online than at the University, since you’re going to be learning by doing and not just memorizing theoretical stuff.
For instance, if you wanna go for Online Marketing, you can pay thousands of dollars to get a degree on that or you can look for an Online Marketing Community where you can learn from experts in the real world and make money at the same time by putting their teaching in practice right away. You don’t have to wait till you get your diploma.
You get the idea, right? There’s options.
You don’t need to do something just because everybody else does it or is something that has been the way to go in the past.
Like I said earlier, there’s plenty of other options of making a living today.
Which Are The Other Options?
I’m really glad you asked.
Once you’ve discovered what you love to do, you’re done following the crowd and you’re commited to take action, that’s the moment when you are able to start living in your own terms.
Let me warn you: this is not going to be an easy ride.
It’s going to take hard work to achieve your dreams and goals, but remember that you’ll be doing what you love, so it will be worth it.
Are you willing to put in the work and not give up?
Then I’m going to give you some of the ways you can follow to create your own lifestyle:
– Work From Home and Make Money Online. Using your own knowledge and skills you can leverage the many ways there are online to earn money from home.
– Be a Digital Nomad and Do What You Love Wherever You Are. Travel as much as you want and work from anywhere in the world.
– Create Your Online Business Out of Your Passion. Build your own brand, help people, sell stuff, be your own boss…
Learn whatever you feel is necessary for you to do what you really love, and then do it.
