What Can I Do With My Life?

What's the answer?If you’re like me and have always been worried about giving some meaning to your existence, you must have asked yourself at some point: What can I do with my life?

That existential question can be very annoying if it stucks in your head, right?

The feeling of needing that something that makes your life complete is a breaking point that can either drown you into the most dark abyss of depression if you don’t eventually find the answer or it can set the spark you needed to actually do something meaningful with your life.

I’m just going to walk you through how I see it from my own point of view, so that you have all the answers to choose the second way.

And then, together we’re going to come up with a wide range of options that you have to make that choice successful and live your life fully making the most of it.

What Kind Of Person Are You Really?

Don’t worry, this is no personality test or something like that.

I just need you to take a look at your thoughts and actions regarding how you take the things life brings you every single day.

Got it?

Alright, we all know there’s a lot of different kind of people around the world, I mean so many different personalities, attitudes, moods, but in terms of how they face life I would say we can easily divide people into two types.

I say we can either be conformists or mavericks.

Conformists are those whose attitute towards life is accepting whatever comes without fighting it. This term is sometimes used as a negative form to describe somebody, but in my opinion, if that way of facing life makes you happy, since you’re able to enjoy the present moment and be ok with yourself no matter what, what’s the harm in that?

It turns into something toxic for you, when that behavior has bad consequences for those around you and drags you into a depressing spiral of self-pity that doesn’t lead you anywhere. It’s when that “yeah, whatever, bring it on” attitude is sarcastic and you don’t really accept it deep inside.

Mavericks are exactly the opposite of the conformists. You’re one of them if you are always looking for more, you’re a free spirit chasing a higher level, if you know how to do what you love in your life. They don’t take things as they come if they can get something better out of them. And that’s inspiring, right? To always strive for the best…

But this attitude can also backfire on you if that need for more, that crave to squeeze life till the last drop, becomes compulsive, since it can create anxiety when you don’t get what you want or what you expected was gonna happen.

Did you recognize youself in one of those descriptions?

Now it’s when you say: “Man! there’s a place inbetween, those are extreme situations and usually people settles for some aspects of their lives, and strive to make the most of other specific moments”.

I agree. It doesn’t have to be black or white. But, remember the question we discussed earlier? What can I do with my life?

Real settlers wouldn’t ask themselves that. They take life as it is, being grateful, joining the game, playing the cards they were dealt. Respect!

What now?

Are You A Frustrated Maverick?

If you are the opposite to a conformist, but you are kind of lost in the way to really find a meaning to your existence, you are actually a frustrated maverick.

You know that your spirit craves for something else, and the point where you’re at right now is really not the place where you would like to be.

You feel like you don’t belong, like you were meant to do something else with your time. You’re not quite ok with how events are happening and feel a little lost.

Alright, don’t panic, I’ve been there.

It’s not a nice place to be, but the good news is that if you’re at that point and you’ve noticed it, you’re one step ahead lots of people who are there as well but have no clue what’s going on.

The key now is: do you want to stay there? In that kind of a limbo where you’re like on a tredmill, watching your dreams in front of you but never getting there?

Now you need to make your choice, cause it’s up to you to change that situation. No excuses, nobody else is going to take action for you, YOU need to do this yourself.


What’s The Next Step Now?

Now, there’s a little exercise you need to do so that everything that comes later makes sense and really works.

You need to focus on what you have right now.

Yeah, I know, you don’t want that. But loose the temper, loose the “no” and “I’m not happy” attitude, cause that’s precisely what’s stopping you.

Focus on those things in your life that you don’t usually pay attention to cause you’re too busy complaining about what you’re not doing. The little things, those bits of happiness that you take for granted because you want something else.

Try to see the bright side of your daily routine. There’s one, believe me. Find it.

You know what I mean. Don’t be too proud to pay attention to that. Because it’s the first step to start giving your life some direction.

When you start doing that, enjoying life as it is, you haven’t suddenly become a conformist, you’re still the same person who wants something more, but the difference here is that now that desire is anxiety-free.

Ironic as it sounds, this is the first step to reaching those beloved dreams of yours.

Be grateful!


Now, you’re good to chase your dreams.

The moment you’re in that state of mind, where you live the moment and enjoy your present life, is exactly the instant you start the journey to that fulfilling life you wanted.

You know, the key here is that your attitude now has changed, now you’re good with what you have, you enjoy it, you feel grateful and you are able to gently pursue your goals to make the most of your life and get to that higher level you wanted.

And now, you are projecting good vibes, and that means attracting good vibes as well.

Have you realized there’s people out there who are always happy no matter what, and they seem to attract good luck wherever they go?

Well, they are the living proof that positive atracts positive, and that’s why you need to first appreciate what you have and then you’ll have what you truly wanted.

It may seem gibberish now, but I promise it works.

What Is It That You Really Want To Do With Your Life?

You’re a complete new person now.

You appreciate your life as it is now, you have come to realize that self-pity and compulsive thinking don’t get you anywhere, so you’ve made the choice to move on and enjoy the present moment to the fullest.

That state of inner peace and stillness is the perfect place to start building your dreams.

You still have those dreams you got before this change, but the big difference here is you don’t have that negatively anxious feeling that you want them to happen asap, because now you’re good, you’re happy and enjoying your actual life, so there’s no need to rush into things, so you can slowly and firmly head for your goals.

The advantage this brings you is that your mind is still and free of that annoying noise that didn’t let you move on. You control your mind now. And your mind, commanded by you, is powerful.

Now it’s the time to answer that question we asked at the beginning.

Think about what you want to do with your life.

What is it that you picture yourself doing for the rest of your life?

Let me give you some ideas, in case you haven’t figured it out yet:

  • Join a NGO and helping others who are in a difficult situation.
  • Dedicate your life to reach the top of your career.
  • Travel the world to see it all.
  • Work out to get fit and participate in the Olympics or reach the top of the Everest.
  • Create your own online business out of your passion.
  • Invent the next big thing.
  • Study that degree you always wanted but never had the guts or the chance.
  • Start your own family and dedicate your life to them.
  • Bring out that artist you’ve always had inside of you and become a painter, a musician, a writer, an actor, a photographer
  • Set a new world record on something you’re very good at.

These are some suggestions that came to my mind right away.

You get the idea.

It’s time, now you’ve achieved the right mindset, you start living your life fully, chasing those dreams that have been hidden inside of you for a long time, buried under a pile of worries and nonsense.

You have talent, you have the strength, you deserve to be happy and make the most of the life you’ve been given.
