How To Travel For The Rest Of Your Life

Travel more!

How much do you travel? Once a year? Maybe twice?

Do you spend the whole year working, just to have a two-week vacation in summer, and maybe another week in Christmas?

Or maybe you’re a bit luckier than the rest and get to do some quick weekend trips every once in a while…

Still, not enough! At least for me.

What about you?

Are you one of those people who, when asked about what you would like to do for the rest of your life, would say: TRAVEL! Just that… TRAVEL!?

If you wake up every morning and just think “travel”…

If you see a travel add and your heart starts pumping like it’s gonna give you a heart attack…

If you get anxious as hell when checking your Instagram feed and watching all those pictures of places around the world where you’d like to be just now…

I feel you. We’re on the same page here. You’re a travel addict, and that’s the most amazing addiction a person can have, don’t you think?

If you have other interests and travel just means some winding up from work for you once a year just to tourist around, I respect it, but I guess this is not your post. Anyway, you can stick around for a while if you want, maybe you change your mind and become one of us (not a cult or anything… just yet :P).

OK, How Do I Do That?

I know that stating that you want to travel for the rest of your life is not the same as actuallly doing it.

It takes courage and determination.

You just need to stop for a second…

Now, clear your mind of all the noise it does with your thoughts and feelings and worries,  and just think how badly you want to do it.

Just think about you life now, and where you would like to be doing at this particular moment if some genie in a bottle gave you one wish to make.

If the answer is, again, that you would like to be somewhere else right now, that you’d rather be traveling, then “no more questions, your honor“.

You know, things arDo what you love!e in fact easier than how we think they are.

You only have one life to live (at least that you know of), and I bet you don’t want it to be just work, paying bills and having some little fun every now and then, do you?

If you want your life to be completely meaningful, you’re the only one who can do it.

It just takes a change on your mindset to decide to change your life for good and make the most of it.

Are you ready for that change?

And When I’m Determined To Do It, Then What?

If you’re at this point, Congratulations! You are already one step ahead of many people.

Now, the only question standing between you and your dreamed lifestyle is…

In which way do you want to do it?

Which kind of journey do you want to undertake?

There’s many ways of traveling, as there are many types of travelers, so how you’re gonna work it out is up to you.

So, let’s first talk about the ways you can travel the world and adopt the nomad lifestyle and we’ll later discuss another important point here, which is how you can fund your journey to happiness.

Ways To Travel The World

Let’s talk about the different forms in which you can travel, to see if you can relate any of them or maybe discover new ones that can fit you:

BACKPACKING

You get yourself a backpack and start walking. Pretty straightforward, right?Backpacking

The idea here is a low-cost, adventure-oriented kind of journey, where you would use cheap accomodation and transport along the way.

Sometimes you can even hitchhike and work while you travel on farms, hotels or other places in exchange for accomodation and food.

So this is just for the adventurous spirits, not a children game.

You need to thoroughly check out the pros and cons of backpacking, before you chose this option.

ROAD-TRIPPING

Let’s say this is like an upgrade of the whole backpacking idea.

You get yourself a vehicle and hit the road. Also a pretty easy concept, huh?Roadtripping

In this case, we’re talking about something which requires a bit more of planning.

The idea here is a more confortable kind of travel, since you not depend on others to move around. You got your own ride, and you decide where to go and when.

You need to take into account that money is going to be an issue here since, unless you get yourself a solar car, gas is not free.

You have a wider range of possibilities to analyze, when it comes to road-tripping, depending on which vehicle are you using (it’s not the same to travel by motorcycle than doing it in a motorhome), and your financial possibilities (these will determine where you eat and sleep).

BY ANY MEANS

So you say you don’t fancy carrying a backpack and walking around and you don’t have a car either. You can still travel nomad-style making use of all the means of transport this world has to offer you.Trains!

In this case, you’re going to need a little budget to start over, like in the road-tripping case, and then figure out how to maintain yourself when the money is gone.

This way is for those who have some savings and want the wheel to start turning and then flow with it.

So in this case, your transport choice, and where you eat and sleep will depend on how you want to spend that budget, at least at first.

Now, How Do I Fund That Nomad Lifestyle?

Having seen which ways you have to travel the world for good, we have to focus now on how you can get a money flow coming for those options which require it.

BudgetIf you are a free-spirit kinda person and want to adopt the natural nomad style and leave money out of the equation, you don’t need to read further. You know how to do it, and already considered the pros and cons so, if that’s your thing, just go for it!

On the other hand, if you want your travel experience to be different than that, and you are on a stage in your life where you don’t want to face that kind of daily struggle and want your journey to be easier, let’s comment some of the most used options to Earn Money While Traveling.

I find so much inspiration when I read your posts and that makes me hope that my blog will do well. I would love to be able to go somewhere every weekend or on the weeks that my husband is off. He travels some with his job and we get to go with him, but I would like to go places more often. It is a wonderful feeling getting to experience something new with the people you love.

    • Israel

I’m really happy this inspires you! 🙂

Traveling is always an amazing experience and it gets better when you share it with someone you love.

I’m sure if you put all your effort in it, your blog will be awesome! And then you will be able to travel more and live life to the fullest.

Go for it and enjoy the ride!

  • Amy

I love your ideas about being able to travel for the rest of my life, and you have figured this out in a very clever way that makes me think that maybe this is affordable for me to be able to travel…!

Your suggestions about selling photography, starting a blog, house-sitting, and teaching, are all excellent suggestions. Speaking for myself, I don’t always recognize when opportunities are right in front of me.

I look forward to checking back here again to read more!

    • Israel

      Hi Amy!

Sometimes we’re so stuck on our daily routine, that we can’t see further, and there is actually where magic happens.

I’m glad this is eye-opening, since I’ve been there most of my life.

When you realize there is a whole world of opportunities out there, there’s no turning back, and that’s your time to do something for yourself and be happy enjoying life in your own terms.

You just need to think what it is that makes you smile and just give your best and make it your goal to do that for the rest of your life. Life’s too short to put off doing what you love.

      All the best!

  • Darmendra

    Hi Israel,
I just want to tell you I am one of those people who love discovering different cultures everytime I have a chance. I would love traveling more than once a year but sadly not always is about money there are many reasons when we have a family with kids, but absolutely once they are old enough to travel around the world with mommy I will work on that! Good post and thank for the tips to make some extra money for those trips.

    • Israel

      Hi Darmendra!

You’re right. Having kids makes traveling a little bit more complex, since at first they are very dependent on their parents and that gives you less freedom of movement.

I really wish this post inspired you to travel more whenever you have the chance, and enjoy the experience with your family. I’m sure your kids will love to see the world with you!

Thank you for your feedback on this.

All the best to you and your family!

Vacationing & traveling is so important! For those that work, go to school, or take care of the house, it’s so important to take a break from everyday life and take time off to energize and enjoy life – even by the cool and interesting methods you mentioned. I definitely wouldn’t mind hitch hiking to somewhere like Miami and simply chilling at the beach 🙂

    • Israel

      Hi Ariel!

It’s very important to do those things you love in your life. But what about doing what you love each and every day of your life, so that you don’t have to take a break, since that “break” is actually happening all the time? 😉

      Enjoy!

  • manor

It sound just perfect. the thing i liked from what i read was your practicability. The way you offer and present things makes me think it is something i can achieve. If to be honest than im not sure it will work for me though, however i am ready to put cynicism (its in my DNA) aside and give things a try.

    • Israel

You know, the thing is you never know how something can turn out if you don’t give it a try.

If you go chase that life you want to live, and commit and put all your effort into achieving it, nothing can stop you. You just need to think: what do I have to lose? 😉

It takes a little change on our mindset to free us from routine and really go for it!

I wish you all the best on that journey!

      Cheers and enjoy!

  • teachexplorerun

    Israel,

I travel quite a bit as an international teacher. I never thought to sell my photographs. What a cool idea! I agree that travel is the most important and valuable thing to do. Most people crave things but I just crave a new country to explore and find out about. Great post!

    • Israel

      Hey!

Working as an international teacher sounds great! It must be a very fulfilling job 😉

You must have a great variety of photographs from many places of the world, so you can absolutely make an extra income seling your photos online!

There’s quite a big demand for travel pictures out there. Just try out some of the ways that really work out, and then come back and tell me how it went 😉

      Thanks for commenting!

      Enjoy traveling!

  • Jacob

I am sick of my job. I work as an accountant for about two years now and this is not at all what I thought about this job. WelI the money is fine but I like the wild and the sun and all I do is sit in an office all day long. It makes me feel claustrophobic.
I am so glad to have found this post. It is exacly the boost I needed to quit it!
The photography sound really apealing, maybe I’ll take a professional course and get it rolling. It was always kind of a hobby of mine.

    • Israel

      Hi Jacob!

I’m happy you’re willing to take the leap, that’s the most important part!

When you realize that your life is not how you pictured it, you either go with the flow and live unhappy of take action to make every minute count.

Travel! Take pictures! Do what you love and be happy 😉

And make sure you enjoy the process of changing your life!

      All the best, my friend!

  • Katie

I really wish I could muster up the courage to just drop everything and take up a nomad style life. I’ve recently started a blog and website and hope one day this will give me the freedom to quit my day job. I hadn’t heard of the option with house/petsitting you mentioned. I will definitely be looking into the Trusted Housesitters website you wrote about. Have you heard of Woofing?

    • Israel

      Hi Katie!

What you’re doing with your blog is already setting up the foundation of your new life. It’s one of the best and easiest ways to start earning money doing what you love. You’re on the right track! 😉

Petsitting is the best. You travel around the world, taking care of pets of all kinds and get free stay in return. It’s great! You should try it if you like animals.

And wwoofing, yeah, I’ve heard about it. It’s working in organic farms as a volunteer, right? I’ve heard they feed you and let you stay for free and you help them with the farm work. Never done it, but sounds great for the most adventurers!

I really wish your blog allows you to finally adopt the lifestyle you want.

      Thanks for stopping by! 😉

      All the best!

  • Dustin

This is exactly what I want to do.

I’ve recently started a blog to help people travel through the use of credit card sign up bonuses. I’m hoping I can monetize it well enough to be able to live the kind of lifestyle where I can travel for as long as I please.

Reading posts like yours will inspire me to keep at it. Thanks for the article.

    • Israel

      Hey Dustin!

You’re just like me then. Travel, travel, travel!! 🙂

That blog sounds awesome! Being able to help other people and do what you love at the same time is amazing, right? I’m sure you’ll make it work!

I’m really glad to be helpful!

Thanks for your kind words and for commenting!

      Cheers and good luck!

  • Brian

I would say that traveling is my biggest passion. I think about it often and definitely wish I could do it more often especially with a travel partner. I enjoy it enough where I can travel on my own, but it would be better to have someone to travel with.

I like what you listed of the things one can do to fulfill their travel dreams. I’m not up for the backpacking method, but I want to earn more money so I can travel more often. I’ve got two websites I’m working on to make that a reality someday, but I definitely have a long way to go.

    • Israel

      Hey Brian!

I’m not a backpaking-kinda-guy either if I can choose. But if I also think it’s the best way to really immerse yourself on different cultures and make the most of them.

And I difinitely love traveling with somebody, with my wife preferably 😉 You get to share amazing moments and that’s very fulfilling 😉

I’m glad you’re on your way to your dreamed lifestyle! Go for it!

      Thanks for commenting!

      Cheers!

  • Jack

Thanks for the helpful advice you’ve displayed here! It’s been my dream to travel wherever I want, when I want. But you can’t do that without a solid income!

I’ve had a look through some of the ways you can make extra money here and it’s definitely given me some food for thought! I’m quite an avid blogger so I could definitely look at taking that further if possible.

What’s the best place you’ve ever travelled to?

    • Israel

      Hi Jack!

      I’m glad this helped you!

I really like to travel, I love the British Isles, Italy, Thailand, I couldn’t chose just one place, I’ve been in many amazing places, but I want to see them all! 😉

      Thanks for commenting!

I hope you make your dreams of traveling come true.

      Cheers!

  • Andy

    Great article, Israel.

I think the best way to sum it up is, “The only thing standing in your way is you.” If you really want to do something, whether it’s travel or anything else, you just have to want it bad enough to do whatever it takes.

I like the idea of blogging for money. It gives you the most freedom. You can literally work anywhere you have an Internet connection. Of course, that still might limit the more adventurous types who want to trek across untamed wilderness where electricity is a novelty, but for the rest of us, I think it’s a great option.

    • Israel

      Hey Andy!

You’re right, man. We are usually our worst enemy standing between us and our dreams.

The option of blogging and traveling is the one I love the most really, it’s complete freedom! 🙂

      Thanks for commenting!

      Cheers and go for it!

  • Anuoluwapo

I really love your article. Fantastic. Really educative and enlightening.

I am an avid traveler by heart. I love to go places and am trying to incorporate that into my lifestyle as you advised. You know get money and create a side gig that takes care of the expenses going forward.

I have a blog and and part of the WA community you mentioned. Such an awesome place to be. And am not regreting it at all.

Thanks for this article again. and for inspiring me that am going the right way (you know, we sometimes doubt ourselves).

  • Sandy

Thank you for this really great and inspiring article. I love traveling, but the budget has often been the restriction. Your article has shown me that it does not need to be.

Now it’s time to get out of my comfort zone and then to start traveling again.

From all the methods of getting money for traveling, I like blogging the most.

    • Israel

      Hey Sandy!

Yeah, getting out of the comfort zone is the most difficult part, but once you do it, you can really enjoy your life and make the most of your passion! It’s worth the effort, don’t you think? 😉

I’m glad this article inspired you to take action.

      Cheers and enjoy!

  • Lanta Eco News

Where there’s a will there’s always a way! Another great way to travel is to find volunteer work on sites like Workaway, Help X and Wwoof. It’s a really good way to meet other people, both travellers and locals, and to try out different kinds of work. You generally do a few hours’ work each day in exchange for accommodation and food, and then have the rest of the day off to go and explore the local area. It’s a great way to travel on a budget and also have some interesting new experiences.

    • Israel

That’s another nice way to travel, help people and get food and a place to stay in exchange!

Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge with us!

      Cheers!

  • Dr. Misty Baker

I absolutely LOVE to travel and LOVED your post!

While I have always just wanted to take off back-packing fear absolutely prevents me from doing so… I guess I’m just not that adventurous! lol.

My style of travel is airplanes and condos and I am so glad that online blogging has made this a possibility!

This is absolutely great that you provided options on how to make money in order to travel the world… EVERYONE deserves to know that these options are out there!

Thanks again for informing the world on how they can do what they love… travel!

    • Israel

      Hi Misty!

      Thanks for your comment!

I’m really glad you are doing what you love!

As you said, everybody deserves to know that is an option in their lives 🙂

By the way, we share that style of travel you talked about (I’m also not so adventurous either), but with one variation. I love to travel like a local, so I usually stay with local people at their places so that I can soak up all the culture and life of the place I’m in.

If you haven’t tried, I really recommend it!

Keep enjoying your nomad life! It’s the best! 😉

  • Anita

One of my hobbies is travelling, but so far am only able to manage it only in my mind. My career has been on my way for quite sometime and i feel that i need to change it so that i can fulfill my travelling desire. Thanks for sharing ways that i can earn a living while still traveling.
I will think about changing my career soon.
